The President’s Folly
October 4, 2009As everyone is probably already aware yesterday President Obama traveled to Copenhagen in a FAILED attempt to secure Chicago’s bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympics. Most pundits argue his attendance and failure to bring home the Games from the stand point of damage to the President’s Political Capitol. From a purely political standpoint I agree but like most Americans I could care less who gained or lost the political advantage as a result of his poor decision. I instead would argue this ordeal and the reactions thereto illustrate the breath of the divide between the political class and the rest of America. The political class though naivety or corruption believe the President as a type of mythical being who only need to open his mouth and the World will drop to its knees and present him with gifts.
See the video of this CNN reporter’s absolute astonishment to the Committee Results:
At the same time this announcement was made back home the rest of America was finding out another 264,000 jobs were lost last month bringing the jobless rate to 9.8% a 26 year high, total hours worked are at an all-time low of 33.2 hours per week and oh by the BLS also announced an additional 826,000 jobs were lost but not counted prior to March, 2009 an additional .8% but not to worry these they do not plan to roll these into the total until March, 2010. Who would have thunk back in February that the Stimulus would be “preforming beyond my wildest dreams” that’s right Just Jo our Vice President. I would expect that Americans living outside the Beltway are more concerned with keeping or getting a job, a roof over their head, food on the table and securing a future for themselves and their children than really care if Chicago got the Olympics. Those on the sidelines are getting extremely tired of this constant game of one-upmanship and baiting that those in government and media constantly use in an attempt to divide and destroy the Nation as we know it. There has always been disconnect between the priorities of those of us who live in the real world and those who live in the imaginary world of Washington. Those Americans who live outside the Washington Cocoon who personally or through friends or family have spent much of the last few years on Middle-Eastern battlefields, un or underemployed, homeless or on the verge thereof as the results of the failed policies of our so-called leader would simply say they are all truly out-of-touch. To those who believed they elected a President who could bring them Hope and Change how now proven he can’t even bring the Olympics to his adopted hometown.
Funny maybe I can finally start watching SNL again:
